Preventing COVID-19

We all need to play our part to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Please use the information on this page to help #KeepTheIslandSafe.

Stay at Home

The most important thing we can do to stop the spread of COVID-19 is to stay at home

It is critical that everybody observes Hands Face Space.

Wash hands
Keep washing your hands regularly

Cover face
Wear a face covering in enclosed spaces

Make space
Stay at least 2 metres apart – or 1 metre with a face covering or other precautions

Getting a COVID-19 test

If you have any of these symptoms, please self-isolate and book a free test straight away:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

The Isle of Wight COVID-19 testing centre is at
Newclose Cricket Ground
Blackwater Rd
PO30 3BE

The Newclose test centre is open Monday to Saturday 9 am to 4.00 pm. It is closed on Sunday.

There will be a mobile testing unit at
1Leisure Medina ( Medina Leisure Centre)
Fairlee Road
PO30 2EW

It is open Saturday and Sunday 23, 24, 30 and 31 January from 9.30 am to 3 pm.

When you book a test online you will directed to the closest test centre to you. If there is no availability at your closest test centre, you will be directed to the other test centre.

Call 119 to book a test if you can’t get online. You can also book using the NHS COVID-19 App.
Please do not travel on public transport or travel to the mainland to get a test.
You can book a postal test if you need to.
Get more information about testing for coronavirus on the UK government website.

Prepare for self-isolation

Self-isolation is not the same as lockdown, it is much stricter as you cannot leave the house except to go to your garden if you have one. You can be fined if you do not self isolate when asked to.

It is likely you will have little or no notice that you must self-isolate. It’s worth spending time now to think about what you’ll do if you or a member of your family needs to self-isolate.

NHS COVID-19 app and Test and Trace

NHS Test and Trace provides testing for anyone who has symptoms of COVID-19 to find out if they have the virus.
NHS Test and Trace gets in touch with anyone who has had a positive test result to help them share information about any close contacts they have had. If needed, NHS Test and Trace alerts those contacts and notifies them to self-isolate at home to help stop the spread of the virus.

Find out how NHS Test and Trace works.

Please download the NHS COVID-19 app to help stop the spread of COVID-19. It’s available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

The app includes contact tracing, local area alerts and venue check-in. It uses proven technology from Apple and Google, designed to protect every user’s privacy.
The faster you know, the quicker you can alert and protect your loved ones and the Island.
